2008

Laguna Canyon Road, originally designed to follow the base of the canyon, was subject to frequent flooding and suffered from daily peak period traffic congestion. The project scope entailed relocating portions of the existing two-lane road from its original location at the bottom of Laguna Canyon to the adjacent, less environmentally sensitive area. This provided an opportunity to blend the roadway into the existing terrain. Laguna Canyon Road is one of Orange County's finest examples of what a collaborative effort between the engineering world and the environmental community can accomplish, successfully demonstrating that improving the safety of roads can be done while respecting the surrounding environment

RBF provided innovative water quality treatment methods throughout the project, which became part of the overall treatment plan. RBF evaluated the existing pavements of all on-site streets based on historic importance and life safety issues to determine the best reuse and modification methods to meet the plan guidelines. All demolished pavements and over 125 non-historic buildings were recycled as base for new construction. This process avoided the placement of over 600,000 tons of material in the landfill. Liberty Station is transforming into a model transit and pedestrian friendly environment with a wide range of amenities for residents, businesses, students, and civic services.
